A full moon rises behind Speedy Gonzales and Witch Hazel. Hazel has netted more than she expected as Speedy runs with her and her broom flying in tow.
Witch Hazel waits for Hansel and Gretel to arrive, planning on having them for dinner. She doesn't plan how to trick them into being dinner, figuring that will be easy enough. After they show up Hazel is surprised by how demanding and difficult they are. She decides to cook up a mind control potion to make things easier. There's just one problem, a missing ingredient: hair of a mouse's tail.
As Hazel wonders aloud where she'd find a mouse, Speedy zips out from a hole in the wall. The odd food he ate the night before has caught up with him. The witch tells him to forget the medicine he asks for, suggesting soup instead. As Speedy samples what's in the cauldron Hazel slams the cover on it. Not much later, Speedy hands her a piece of cheese from the cupboard. When Hazel, not believing her eyes, checks the cauldron Speedy hits her with the lid. While all this going on, Hansel and Gretel demand more food.
Upon hearing Hazel's complaint that he isn't cooked, Speedy zips into the oven. Hazel tries to extract him, and even tries to climb in after the mouse. While Hazel is focused on getting him out of the oven, Speedy compliments her and tricks her into blowing herself up. After that, he asks just why she wanted a mouse. Hearing that she just wanted some hair, Speedy offers it, but tricks Hazel again and gives her one of her own hairs. Hazel finishes the potion and serves it, but gets a nasty surprise as the improper potion turns Hansel and Gretel into vicious animals
Foghorn walks up with a pair of rackets and a badminton birdie, asking if any of the hens would care for a game. They explain that they're busy getting ready for biggest egg contest at the fair. The rooster stops by Miss Prissy who is coaching Eggbert for the fair's spelling bee. Foghorn tries to be helpful but only causes confusion. When he encounters Dawg lifting weights to ready himself for the dog show, the rooster's version of help is quite painful.
Kicked out, Foghorn plans on winning something at the fair himself. His first try backfires as the boulder he paints up as an egg actually hatches, but it hatch a dinosaur. Another attempt, this time at the spelling bee, is even less successful as he ends up exiting through a trap door. Foghorn winds up at what at first seems like a beauty contest, but the hens are just there to admire boxing champ Kid Pummel. Foghorn makes light of Pummel's short stature and ends up in the ring with him.
Foghorn's larger size helps him avoid Kid Pummel, holding him off easily. Overconfident, he offers Kid a clear shot at himself. The blow sends Foghorn flying a considerable distance. The hard, face-first landing of Foghorn's does win him an award: most homely mutt.
Sylvester and Tweety, in a seeming moment of truce, watch a kid's TV show. A bit of advice has the cat claiming that the bird could not walk a mile in his shoes, as it were. Tweety shows photos of being caught and nearly eaten. In reply, Sylvester shows photos of his painful defeats. The pair argue until they agree to a challenge: they'll trade places.
Tweety wears a small Sylvester suit and Sylvester wears a large Tweety suit to get into their roles. When Tweety tries to get at Sylvester, he's thwarted in a manner he would normally use on the cat. A second attempt results in another strange failure involving an overly powerful vacuum cleaner and a surprised ox.
Sylvester figure he can use Tweety's things since he's playing the part. Unfortunately he, unlike Tweety, doesn't know what is real and what is a booby trap. The cat seems to be too into the role as Tweety repeats a line the cat used while first playing Tweety and he doubts Tweety could pass for a bird. They both make plans. One makes an attack plan and the other a defense plan. Each discovers that there's more work involved than they'd realized. They also manage to blow each other up. This is followed an arms race of escalating mallet size.
After that, Tweety figure it'll be good to get back to normal. Sylvester disagrees. Despite of all the problems he's had being a bird, he figure once he gets better at being a bird he'll win every time. That will be a while since when Sylvester declares himself to be a bird, Tweety opens the door for several hungry cats.
